Serving

Posted by Generation of Prayer on July 25, 2008 at 7:06 PM
We often associate the term serving with doing things for people or being used, such as a butler serving the master. But that is what we are supposed to do. In the Bible, serving is mentioned several times. We are to serve with our actions, our mind, our bodies, our talents.

Mark 10:42-45

Jesus called them together and said, You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over the, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first, must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Philipians 2:6-9

6Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
 7but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
      being made in human likeness.
8And being found in appearance as a man,
      he humbled himself
      and became obedient to death
         even death on a cross!
9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,

Verse to Remember:
Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant
- Mark 10:43
